Anti-diabetic Drug Rosiglitazone for Selective Use; FDA Announces

Pioglitazone and rosiglitazone are thiazolidinediones those facilitate the function of peroxisome proliferator-activator receptor gamma.

These receptor stimulation helps in metabolism of glucose and fat. The cells responsible are the fat cells and muscle cells.
This helps to reduce insulin resistance, facilitating the action of insulin on glucose metabolism; prevents glucose break down and new glucose synthesis in liver. The control of glucose level in blood improves.
Recently, rosiglitazone is blamed for increase in heart attacks in users. Keeping this in view, FDA advises to put a warning on this drug. It also advises to use rosiglitazone, in case other drugs fail or somehow contraindicated.
