USA Presidential Candidate's Vaccine Remark may be Unfounded

USA presidential candidate's vaccine remark may be unfounded. Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann first raised the issue during a republican presidential debate on Monday that HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) vaccine may cause mental retardation.
She apparently got the clue from a woman from Tampa, Florida; who complained that her child became mentally retarded after getting the vaccine.

Some also have fear towards the vaccine and some link the vaccination to autism. The statement of the US presidential candidate has damaged the effort of the scientific community and doctors to convince the parents to allow their children to get the shot.
HPV vaccine has the potential to protect about 70% of cervical cancer incidence i.e. about 12,000 women per year in USA.
Organizations like the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists -- every learned medical organization in the country and indeed around the world are in favor of immunization.
All of them dismiss the unfounded fear of vaccine linked autism and mental retardation.
The most common side effect of HPV vaccination can be a sore arm, a rash and fever.
