Stress can Damage Skin Through Hormonal Imbalance

Stress either physical or psychological can cause several health problems. Stress and strain are well known for heart attack, obesity, asthma, psoriasis, eczema, gastrointestinal disorders, sleeping disorder and many more.

It can also cause wrinkles in skin, ridges on nails, rosacea and acne. This is mostly through hormonal imbalance. The increase of stress hormones like  cortisol and adrenaline are blamed for it.
Cortisol can lead to break down of collagen in skin and lessen the water holding power, so skin wrinkles can appear. Adrenaline decreases blood flow to skin and diverts it to muscle as in stressful situations that may lead to poor nutrition to skin cells.
Stress hormones increase oil production in skin and decreases the immunity that may lead to infection of oil glands; ultimately leading to acne.
It is possible to lessen the stress by consulting health care providers and possibly through meditation.
