Graps of Slovenian Red Wine Variety ZametovkaGrapes for Red Wine
The skin and seeds of grapes (Red) yields one compound, a polyphenolic phytoalexin called resveratrol. It has drawn attention of scientists due to cardio-protective effect seen in red wine. Red wine contains resveratrol from 0.2 mgs to 5.8 mgs/liter of wine depending on the variety of wine. Red wine contains the skin during fermentation while white does not. It is also found from certain plants like Japanese knotweed.
It, in relatively large doses is helpful to the patients of breast, prostate cancer; diabetes and has anti-aging effect. Now, it has been seen that it also protects cartilage destruction in arthritis, particularly osteoarthrosis (OA). Along with curcumin found from turmeric, it works in a better way in OA.
The exact mechanism is not known, but postulated to be due to the antioxidant effect and blockade of inflammatory mediators in joints.

Now it has presence in many formulations to boost the potential of other antioxidants, trace elements and vitamins.
